SRS Youth Club

Hi Everyone!

We are excited to announce that our Youth Club will be up and running again! One of our moms, Jennifer Hunt, has graciously agreed to help us with this so that we can start getting all the kids together again! Everyone enjoyed it so much in the past and we are excited to see the new ideas Jennifer will bring to our already fun club! The youth club is open to any SRS riders and the fee ( if any at all) will just depend on what we are going to be doing at each meeting.

Our first meeting will be next Wednesday, February 28 from 5:00- 6:30 at Sarah Russell Stables. The fee is $5 as the kids will be making a craft (possibly a t-shirt?). Hunt Brothers pizza will be provided!

We hope everyone can make it! Please RSVP if you can so I can get a good idea of how many kids we will have!

Best,
Sarah

Happy Holidays!

Our Christmas Morning at SRS was so much fun!  Thank you to all who came, we really enjoyed having you!  If you weren’t able to make it, please pick up your gift on the table in the barn aisle when you come for your lesson this week!  There is also a donation box for St. Jude on the same table.  Any donation is appreciated.

The barn will be closed for lessons on December 25 and 26 and again on January 1.

We are excited to offer our new Dream Team program for riders 11 and older who are interested in spending more time at the barn.  The duties of the Dream Team will include grooming and tacking lesson horses, organizing tack and equipment, helping take care of all of our amazing lesson horses, and anything else that needs to be done around the barn!  Their will be a certification day to be on the Dream Team which will cover:

  • Grooming
  • Tacking
  • Safety
  • Time management
  • Barn etiquette
  • and more!!!

Emails will be sent to riders who qualify to participate in this program!

Stay tuned for our 2018 show schedule!  Coming out soon!

Best,

Summer Success!

Hello SRS Family!

I wanted to update you since the last blog –  The Summer Fun Horse Show was an absolute success for SRS!  We showed in 6 classes and we won all 6 of them!  Congratulations to Reagan, Alex, Jamie, and the Schuckenbrock family on all of your wins!

We also traveled to Lexington, Kentucky for the last Lexington Junior League Horse Show located at the famous Red Mile Racetrack!  Reagan Moore and Alex Popper were yet again AMAZING, earning excellent ribbons in their respective divisions.   Kate Ramsower, of Alamo, CA won the Saddle and Bridle Pleasure Medallion out of a large field of top riders – we were so proud!  The Last Mile was a week to remember and celebrate.

On another note, all three of our summer camps were jam packed with fun!  We spent time riding and driving horses, learning about grooming and tack, painting Cricket, and of course playing with the dogs and the miniature cow, Cupid!

If you’re out at the barn this week and you see Reagan, please wish her the best of luck as we leave next Saturday for The World Championship Horse Show where she will compete in Walk and Trot 10 & Under.   I know she will make us proud!

I hope you all have had a fulfilling summer and I wish you much success in the new school year!

Best,

Sarah

Gearing up for Summer!

Hello SRS Barn Family!

School’s out!  It’s time for fun!  We have so many new faces around the barn – kids, horses, mini cows, you name it – lots to be excited about!  Make sure you all stop by Stall number 3 and visit Cupid, our new miniature Jersey cow!

As a kickoff to summer we are having a Saturday Get Together at the barn for all of our students.  It will be June 3 from 3 until 6:30 pm.  Keeping our busy lesson schedule going every half hour leaves limited time for the kids to get to know each other.  We wanted to plan an afternoon to make new friends, visit with old friends, talk about horses, and hang out in their favorite place – the barn!  First on the agenda we will be learning how to take care of a horse – groom, tack, and get ready for a lesson as many of our newer/younger students don’t know this yet.  Once students are capable of doing this they are allowed and encouraged to come early for lessons and get their horse ready and also stay late and put the horse away.  This also allows for parent drop off as the students need extra time before and after to take care of their horse, and students getting to spend more time at the barn and making new barn friends.  And as everyone knows, barn friends are the BEST friends!  After we learn how to properly care for a horse, we will head into the lounge and watch Dreamer (one of mine and Owen’s favorite movies!) and we will have plenty of popcorn and candy.  Come in jeans and boots as we will be working with horses, but we encourage you to bring comfy clothes/jammies/slippers to change into and watch the movie!

We also have our summer camps approaching quickly!  We have 3 camps this summer – June 12-16, June 26-30, and July 31 – August 4.  Our camps are the best as we offer the most hands on time with the horses.  We ride twice every day, clean stalls, groom horses, bathe horses, feed horses, paint horses, learn body parts, learn about tack, learn about horse shows, etc.   The kids never want to leave when it’s time to go 🙂   You can find registration forms on the Camps page of the website, sign up now!

June 6-10 is the Summer Fun Horse Show in Weirsdale, FL at the beautiful Grand Oaks Resort.  Alex, Reagan, Jamie and I will be showing there and we invite everyone to come cheer us on!  We will have a “box seat” table with the name Sarah Russell Stables on it.  Alex and Reagan will show Thursday evening and Saturday morning and Jamie and I will be showing Friday evening.  If you want to see what a horse show is all about, come check it out!

Stay tuned for more exciting summer activities!

Warm regards,

Sarah

Home from the World Championship Horse Show

What a whirlwind!  We just arrived home from Louisville, Kentucky where we competed at the World Championship Horse Show.  Although I have been there every year for twenty years, and even won there a handful of times, I have never taken my own group of horses and riders there to compete until this year.  It was an honor and a privilege.  I’m not sure where to start, but I think I will start here – Thank You!

Thank you to my clients for entrusting me with the training and care of your horses and more importantly your children.  I am proud of each and every one of the girls for their performances and their attitudes.  I love having a barn family that supports each other and celebrates each other’s successes just as much as their own.

Thank you to my horses for giving it your all at the biggest show of the year.  We train and prepare for this all year long just hoping and praying we will “peak” at the right time.  We had a few mistakes – such is life with horses – but for the most part, our horses were wonderful.  Two of them left the show headed to new homes.  Designer Diva is headed to Tennessee where she will be trained by Harris Riding Academy and Risen Star is now in New Hampshire at Verrill Stables.  We were sad to see both of these horses go but they had fulfilled their duty for our riders and it is time for them to make the next person’s dreams come true!  We wish their new owners/trainers the best of luck with these special horses.

Thank you to my colleagues for all of your kind words of encouragement and congratulations.  I was very excited to be taking a string of horses to Worlds for the first time on my own and the support I received from fellow horse trainers made me extremely proud.  The American Saddlebred industry is the best.

Thank you to my employees, both at the horse show and at home for helping things to run smoothly.  It takes a village!

Thank you to my family for always supporting me.  Ross, thank you for making the long drive with a 3 1/2 year old and for taking care of him while I worked because there is no way I could have gone that entire time without seeing him!  (or you 😉 )  And for your words of encouragement and advice.  Kellan, I know you can’t read this quite yet but thank you for being awesome.  You sat through numerous sessions of horse shows and behaved, although I know there were times when you were bored out of your mind.  You stayed up late and kept long adult hours and did not have any fits.   And you even “helped” us pack up on Saturday night until 1:30 in the morning – with a smile on your face. You are the best!

Lastly, thank you to my girls!   Reagan, Annaliese, Brooklyn, Sarah, and Julia – you all made me proud!  Two of my five riders were first timers, and three of five earned ribbons that qualified for championship classes.  Five of five gave it their all and showed true sportsmanship.  We’ll be back next year!

Please take advantage of this new tool!  It will help me to keep track of when everyone rides and allow for notifications of cancellations and rescheduling.  24 hour notice required for cancellation unless the cancellation is due to weather.
